Ultimate Smoky Baked Beans
It is rare that something this simple can look this amazing, right? We have the rich, blended soup-like warmth straight from the Dutch Oven, the texture from the blistered bell peppers and smoked sausage, and that perfect crispy bacon crunch. This is the Pam’s Place difference!
Ingredients
- 1 tablespoon macadamia nut oil
- 12 oz smoked sausage, sliced
- 1/2 green bell pepper, chopped
- 3 large cans baked beans in tomato sauce
- 1/2 cup smoky non-sweet barbecue sauce
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
- 1/2 cup water
- 6 slices bacon, fried crispy and crumbled, divided
Instructions
1. Heat the Skillet
Heat the macadamia nut oil in your skillet over medium heat.
2. Brown the Sausage
Add the sliced smoked sausage and cook until nicely browned and golden.
3. Sauté the Bell Pepper
Stir in the chopped green bell pepper and sauté with the sausage until soft and slightly blistered.
4. Add the Baked Beans
Pour in the 3 cans of baked beans, stirring after each addition until everything is well combined.
5. Build the Flavor
Add the water, brown sugar, smoky barbecue sauce, and 3/4 of the crumbled bacon. Stir until fully combined.
6. Bake
Transfer to a 300°F oven and bake uncovered for about 1 hour, allowing the flavors to come together and the beans to become rich and smoky.
7. Finish & Serve
Top with the remaining crispy crumbled bacon, stir gently, and serve warm. ENJOY!
Pam’s Pro Tips:
Cold-Pan Rendering: If you’re frying your bacon fresh for this recipe, start it in a cold skillet to render out maximum fat for maximum crunch.
Sauce Balance: Using a smoky, non-sweet BBQ sauce keeps the dish balanced so the 1/4 cup of brown sugar doesn't make it overly sweet.
