Easy Homemade Stacked Lasagna Recipe: (Step-by-Step)

What You'll Need

  • 10x15 baking dish
  • 1 1/2 pounds ground beef
  • 1 pound Italian sausage
  • 1 package lasagna noodles
  • 1 egg
  • 1 cup cottage cheese
  • 1 large bell pepper, chopped
  • 1 large onion, chopped
  • 5 cloves garlic, chopped
  • 2 cups sharp cheddar cheese
  • 2 cups mozzarella cheese
  • 1 cup provolone cheese
  • 1 cup parmesan cheese
  • 1/2 cup grated parmesan cheese
  • 1 tablespoon dried thyme
  • 1 tablespoon dried oregano
  • 1 tablespoon dried basil
  • 1 tablespoon parsley
  • 3 tablespoons Pam’s Prep All Purpose Seasoning
  • 4 tablespoons salt
  • 4 1/2 cups pasta sauce

How to Make It

1. Cook the Pasta:

  • Bring a large pot of water to a rapid boil and add 4 tablespoons of salt.
  • Add lasagna noodles and cook according to package directions.

2. Make the Meat Sauce:

  • In a large skillet or cast iron pan, cook the ground beef and Italian sausage over medium heat, breaking it up with a fork or handheld grinder.
  • Add bell pepper, onion, garlic, 2 tablespoons of Pam’s Prep Seasoning, thyme, oregano, and basil.
  • Cook until meat is fully browned. Drain excess fat.
  • Add pasta sauce, reduce heat, and simmer uncovered for 8–10 minutes.

3. Prepare the Cheese Mixture:

  • In a medium bowl, mix the egg with the cottage cheese. Set aside.
  • Drain pasta and cool with a splash of cold water.

4. Assemble the Lasagna:

  • Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • Lightly spray a 10x15 baking dish with cooking spray.
  • Add a small layer of meat sauce to the bottom to prevent sticking.
  • Layer noodles over the sauce, then dollops of the cottage cheese mixture (about 1/4), followed by cheddar, provolone, and mozzarella.
  • Repeat layers until meat sauce is used up, finishing with a cheese layer.
  • Top final layer with parmesan and grated parmesan cheese.

5. Bake:

  • Cover with foil and bake for 40 minutes.
  • Uncover, sprinkle with parsley and remaining 1 tablespoon of Pam’s Prep Seasoning.
  • Bake uncovered for 10 more minutes until cheese is bubbling and lightly browned.
  • Let cool for at least 30 minutes before serving to allow lasagna to set.
