What You'll Need

Main Ingredients:

  • 1 large head of cabbage
  • 1 pound ground turkey or ground beef
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 1 egg, lightly beaten
  • 1 15-ounce container of diced tomatoes
  • 1 6-ounce can tomato paste (divided)
  • 3 tablespoons Pam's Prep All-Purpose Seasoning (divided)
  • 1/2 cup uncooked minute rice
  • 2/3 cup chicken broth
  • 8 tablespoons butter
  • 3–4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2-3 Tablespoons sugar

How to make it

Step-by-Step Instructions:

Prepare the Cabbage:

  • Place the whole head of cabbage in the microwave for 5 minutes or boil it for 5 minutes to loosen the leaves.
  • Carefully remove the cabbage from the microwave or pot and score the base of each leaf near the core.
  • Gently separate 8 leaves and boil them for 5 minutes to soften and wilt.
  • Drain the softened leaves and remove the core stem from each leaf.

Sauté the Onions:

  • In a large skillet with a lid, melt the butter over medium heat.
  • Add the chopped onions and sauté until translucent and softened.

Make the Filling:

  • In a large mixing bowl, combine:
    • Ground turkey (or beef)
    • Garlic
    • Sautéed onions
    • Egg
    • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
    • 2 tablespoons Pam's Prep All-Purpose Seasoning
  • Mix thoroughly to create a uniform filling.

Assemble the Cabbage Rolls:

  • Spoon an even amount of the filling into the center of each cabbage leaf.
  • Fold in the cut side first, then fold the short ends toward the middle, and finally, fold the other side over to seal.
  • Place the rolled cabbage leaves seam-side down on a plate.

Prepare the Sauce:

  • In a medium-sized bowl, combine:
    • Remaining tomato paste
    • Diced tomatoes
    • Chicken broth
    • 1 tablespoon Pam's Prep All-Purpose Seasoning
  • Mix well to create a smooth sauce.

Cook the Cabbage Rolls:

  • Spread half of the prepared sauce in the bottom of the skillet.
  • Arrange the cabbage rolls seam-side down in the skillet, ensuring they don’t overlap.
  • Pour the remaining sauce over the rolls.
  • Bring the pot to a boil, then reduce to low heat, cover, and simmer.
  • Occasionally baste the cabbage rolls with the sauce and cook for about 1 hour until the cabbage is tender and the filling is cooked through.
