What You'll Need

  • 2 1/2 cups All Purpose Flour
  • 1/2 tablespoon garlic powder
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1 1/2 sticks (12 tablespoons) cold salted butter, cut into small pieces
  • 1 1/2 cups cheddar cheese, shredded
  • 1 1/3 cups water (more or less as needed)
  • 1 tablespoon honey

Topping:

  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon dried parsley

How to Make It

1. Make the Dough

  • In a large bowl or food processor, combine flour, baking powder, garlic powder, and cold butter.
  • Pulse or crumble until the texture is coarse and pea-sized.
  • If using a food processor, transfer the mixture to a bowl.
  • Fold in the shredded cheddar cheese.

2. Bring It Together

  • Make a well in the center of the mix.
  • Add a bit of water and the honey.
  • Stir gently with a silicone spatula, adding more water as needed until the dough is sticky and comes together.

3. Knead and Fold

  • Turn the dough onto a floured surface.
  • Knead 2–3 times just until it’s soft and holds together.
  • Roll into a rectangle.
  • Fold one short end toward the center, then the other end over it — like folding a letter.
  • Repeat the folding at least 3 times.

4. Prep to Bake

  • Preheat the oven to 425°F (218°C).
  • Butter the bottom and sides of a cast iron skillet.
  • Use a floured biscuit cutter or glass to cut the dough (press straight down — no twisting).

5. Bake the Biscuits

  • Place biscuits into the skillet so they touch. This helps them rise higher.
  • Bake for 20 minutes or until golden and fully cooked.

6. Final Touch

  • While still hot, brush with garlic butter topping.
  • Enjoy warm!
